A pay rise that isn’t fully funded means schools will have to meet the shortfall from already overstretched budgets, leading to cuts to vital services. The NEU will campaign to make sure government invests in education. #FundFairPay #SaveOurSchools 🔗 neu.org.uk/press-releases…

.Lynn Perry MBE: “We’re disappointed by this delay. Every week we don’t act, more children are going for days without a hot meal, going another week at school in shoes that don’t fit, or spending seven more nights sleeping in a room covered in black mould.”

Exactly. Childhood is precious, it’s the basic duty of government to do the utmost to ensure every child doesn’t suffer poverty.

Just one more symptom of a crisis of trust in teachers’ autonomy and assessment. It matters because a deskilled and devalued profession is on a spiral ending in standardised failure.

Just been at #hayfestival talking with @frank_cottrellboyce about the #readingrights campaign for @booktrust. We were talking about the neuroscience of why book stimulate young brains better than taking in the same information from screens. Here’s what we were saying: 👇

Even an “as you were” budget commitment means continuing to inflict a slow violence on schools and colleges. Now we’ve reached the incredible point where the sector is left begging for maintenance of just the status quo. We can do better, we have to.

📉 After 14 years of shrinking budgets, we all have a story about the impact of school cuts on our communities. 🏫 We want to hear from you: What’s one thing your school can’t afford to have or do anymore?

I can't stress how important I think this demo is. I think we will begin to face a similar narrative as in the States "back Biden or it's Trump", "back Starmer or..." The issue is an austerity Labour government is a sure-fire way for Farage to enter No10. The starting point

when racially marginalised and working-class children’s language is framed as symptomatic of ‘misbehaviour’, this contributes to broader ideologies of deficit and low expectations that shape their unjust experiences of school
