Reflecting lately (always) on Nick Estes writings on the Standing Rock camps and how they acted as powerful examples of other, better ways of living and being in the world. And how the response to both NoDAPL and student encampments has been more $$$ for cops not communities.

Settler colonialism attempted to snuff out Native and Black families in all forms. Children torn from parents. All genders demonized. Entire familial lineages eliminated. Centuries later, it’s still a battle. There’s no way you can look at Palestine and not see the parallels.

May 8 marks the end of the Wounded Knee Occupation of 1973, which still fuels our fight for justice today. Wounded Knee was more than an occupation, but a fight for liberation and the reclamation of our dignity and futures as Indigenous Peoples.

Take the time to listen/watch the whole episode, especially the end. Jeffrey Ansloos takes the time and care to demonstrate the capacity for liberation in times of genocide and deep despair, whether in Palestine or Turtle Island.
