Emily’s (Emily Ekl) research & teaching interests include medical sociology, work and organizations, and social networks. Her dissertation draws on comparative ethnography to understand how mid-status professionals navigate a healthcare system that was built to privilege doctors.

Ben’s research & teaching interests include social psychology, mental health, media, race, and criminology. His dissertation studies Hip Hop, and the evolution of race and gender performances from gangsta street code to more vulnerable displays of mental health and heartbreak.

Jennifer’s interests lie at the intersection of gender, social psychology, and culture. More specifically, she examines subtle and easily overlooked forms of gender inequality across various contexts, such as higher education and the workplace.

Yingjian studies labor market inequality through cultural sociology, social networks, and organizational theories. His research examines how individuals remake themselves and their networks to navigate the changing world of work and how such remaking shapes patterns of inequality

DongEun’s research interests include gender, work and family, occupations, organizations, and health. Her dissertation examines the extent to which gender inequality is present in earnings, employment transitions, and health across different types of nonstandard employment.
