So excited to reveal this glorious cover design for #OrdinarySaints Niamh Ní Mhaoileoin I absolutely fell in love with this arresting, unmissable prize-winning debut novel - an exploration of family, grief, queer identity, and the legacy of the Catholic Church in Ireland.

Incidentally, Pope Francis canonised 14 new saints yesterday. It's quite a beautiful ceremony - no one does these moments like the Vatican. Scroll to 1.25 for the best bit, and the moment my protagonist imagines herself into.

And this is the reaction to the moment of canonisation at the home Cathedral of some of the new saints. The novel focuses a lot on how wild this process is, when viewed through secular eyes. But this is a reminder of how much it still means to devout Catholics.

I urge you all to pre-order #OrdinarySaints, it's completely brilliant! Published in April 2025 by Manilla Press, this is quite a novel. An empathetic, nuanced exploration of the Catholic church in modern Ireland, queer identity, family and so much more. It is amazing! 📚😇😍

A week since we revealed this pure banger of a cover for #OrdinarySaints and I'm still flying. Thanks so much to all the angels and saints who've pre-ordered, messaged, commented, shared and even read (!) since then. It's really meant the world to me ❤️

Untrue. Only this morning I realised that I don't know nearly enough about the 1953 evacuation of the Blasket Islands to possibly progress with my new novel, in which the islands won't feature in any way.

This is such a smart read about Small Things Like These. It points out that the story may be set in the past but the bystander effect that’s at the centre of it is still very real in Ireland. It says there are a lot of situations right now where Ireland has “a kind of strategic

In 2020, I read a news story about Carlo's beatifcation and was so fascinated that I wrote a novel about the bizarre and disturbing world of contemporary saintmaking. Yesterday, the Pope announced that Carlo will be canonised THE SAME WEEK that the book comes out. Like, what??
