It looks like Trump genuinely thinks that Russia has the right to invade another country because it’s big on the map. Since he couldn’t be “wrong”about the “deal”, and didn’t dare to request something real from Moscow, he needed somebody to blame. In reality not much changed

Nataliya Gumenyuk (@ngumenyuk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I was answering the questions on the settlement to Foreign Affairs podcast earlier. Still back then started with the US leverage to stop its support if Kyiv doesn’t agree. The US thought Ukraine wanted any deal, Ukrainians don’t need the bad one podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the…

What the Trump administration seems to be most interested in is engineering a strategic rapprochement with Russia, not in ending the war in Ukraine. Ukraine is supposed to be just currency for that deal, which is why it causes so much anger when it shows agency of its own.

Nataliya Gumenyuk (@ngumenyuk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Trump wants any deal. For him accepting Russian terms seems the fastest. So he uses only leverage: military aid. Ukraine wants security guarantees. For Trump his word is enough since “Putin respects him.” Challenge that is disrespectiful. My latest theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

It feels like Ukrainians are more shocked by this decision by Donald Trump. Banning students protests is the reddest of the red line in our nation psycho.

The only critical 🇺🇸 weapon Europe can’t substitute fully are the shells for air defense, which only aim is to save civilian lives and infrastructure. Thus major US leverage over 🇺🇦 is destruction of the major cities. Todays attack:most missiles were shut down, still 18 ppl wounded

The real leverage against Ukraine Trump has is not abandoning us, but not selling means for air defense. My latest for The Guardian. Photo: teens observe rescue operation, waiting for the miracle —their friend is under the rubble. No, he didn’t survive theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I guess chestnuts blossoms season in Kyiv could become a traditional touristic attraction like Sakura Festivals in Japan. My 5 minute walk from the office to the closest subway station

May 9th,former Soviet victory day, used to be an important till Moscow highjacked it to promote its modern fascism. Political sign-off to the Special Tribunal to prosecute Putin for the crime of aggression makes it again the day to remind “never again” reuters.com/world/europe/e…

American weapons are important, but Ukrainian drones have changed everything "What’s keeping Ukraine in the fight is not Russian mercy, or even solely American arms: It’s innovation" from Nataliya Gumenyuk, The Atlantic

I've embedded with pilots from 3 UA brigades in the East. A lot is said about drone production. This @Atlantic dispatch shows what this warfare looks like. It's not just about lesser dependence on US weapons. UAVs make the price tag feasible for the allies theatlantic.com/international/…

Russia refused Ukraine’s offer of total or air ceasefire. Trump refused Ukraine’s request for air defenses and declined to sanction Russia for murderous missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. Ukraine took out the planes used for these missile attacks. Simple.

What might be not obvious: after today’s special operations Ukrainians are safer, as more deadly weapon is destroyed. All these years the Kremlin attacks Ukraine with full capacity. The reasonable way to protect itself: destroy those capabilities to attack Ukrainian towns
