I had a dream of being a newspaper reporter who got to cover municipal politics. And I did the best I could.

The fact that the city I fell in love in and got married in was a part of that will mean more to me than anyone will ever know.

One dream down. So many more to go.

This is going to sound so cheesy and I'm sure some people will make assumptions, but I don't care.

Thank you to everyone at city hall who has welcomed me and been so enthusiastic about my presence at the media desk.

Next up: Pier Park Fire next steps. Mayor Johnstone says there was a meeting with Min. Lana Popham (BC/tourism) about this site and what the city's plans are for it. In the talks with Popham at UBCM, it was noted that Indigenous peoples needed to be consulted.

Mayor Johnstone notes that while there is this plan in place and that we're seeing overcrowding, there is no money for this rapid transit action plan. There is a danger here, he says, to potentially threaten bus service, and calls it an 'existential threat.'

Alright, so this is going ahead.
-Council says OK to the draft terms of reference as outlined in the report and that recruitment will go ahead.
Next: TransLink's Bus Rapid Transit Action Plan. Coun. Nakagawa says there should be a discussion with TransLink/a rep from TransLink.

Staff: (Lisa Leblanc) It's an awkward area, there is a gap between the two lines in the Spruce St. crossing area, so to be transparent we wanted to flag now that the timeline for the design's completion is less certain than it had been last quarter.

OK if I am understanding what happened...it sounds like we are not going to cover 3.3 which is the Code of Conduct bylaw.

We're starting with the train whistle cessation update. Coun. Henderson asking what changed with the Spruce St. crossing, why has it been pushed back.

The item in question is in relation to the Code of Conduct bylaw. If this item (which is on table) is deferred, it wouldn't be discussed until Nov. 6.

There's an extra layer to this because we have three councillors attending via Zoom...

Uh....we haven't even started yet and we're trying to figure out a particular motion (whether it was published, whether it should be talked about tonight, etc.)

Major loss for the community #newwest #newwest minster The New West Anchor punched wayyy above its weight for local coverage and good mix of hard news and local puff coverage. Ria was the driving force. Sad.

It's also worth noting that based on the information I've been given, workers have been encouraged to vote 'yes' to strike. Obviously if everything goes ahead, definitely expect impacts on work, including at City Hall, among other places.
