On this day (17th July) in 1860 the new district church of St John the Evangelist in #Newbury was consecrated by the Bishop of Oxford. The postcard shows a view from c.1905. Just one of the facts in the book and more being added for the second edition.

And ebbing ever closer to the 100%. A few more days completed updating now. The issue is the less days there are the more difficult it becomes to find things that happened on those remaining days.

On this day (24th August) in 1215 the first St Bartholomew’s Fair was held in #Newbury. St Bartholomew’s Hospital held a 2 day fair which it was thought, in 1939 had been held annually without interruption! #history

Been working on 2nd edition of Newbury365 again, a few other #history projects too. Don't forget I also do websites via DevZen, most of which are #Thatcham / #Newbury based businesses/charities/societies/etc. - love supporting local organisations.

Continuing to work on 2nd edition of Newbury365 and specifically parts on the Marsh (#Newbury). Already know it was renamed Victoria Park in the late 1890s (not 1900s as the history books have it), also found reference in 1883 to the Marsh being known as the “people’s park”

Continuing the work updating the second edition, apologies, fitting it in between other commitments. Currently researching Thomas Smith in the early 1800s who would make donations to the poor every Christmas.

Last year I took part in #allaboutthatplace with "Thatcham: Whats in a name?" - see youtube.com/watch?v=1U9jYQ…. Looking at doing it again this year, short 10 min piece. Looking at possibly Roman Thatcham, Saxon Thatcham or Dunston House (our last manor house). Thoughts? Suggestions?
