Last week DFO staff were in Windsor #NS with NS Agriculture and The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (Mi'kmaw Conservation Group) to collaboratively plant seeds provided by KMKNO (@MikmaqRights) in the Avon River area to stabilize the soil and help reduce dust.

NS Agriculture Mi'kmaw Conservation Group @MikmaqRights The area was exposed after the lowering of the reservoir which has improved fish passage through the existing tidal gates.

NS Agriculture Mi'kmaw Conservation Group @MikmaqRights We ask ATV riders to avoid the area to allow the soil to stabilize.

We continue to work in partnership with the Mi’kmaw Conservation Group (Mi'kmaw Conservation Group), the commercial fishery and Acadia University to monitor fish passage at the Windsor causeway.

UINR, KMKNO and CMM are working with people whose livelihoods have been impacted by spruce budworm outbreaks (or will be impacted by future outbreaks). Contact [email protected] if you are willing to participate in an interview to discuss this project.
