A few years ago I speculated that Acronicta ranges south into Colombia since oaks reach their southern limit there. Lo and behold, here’s a true Acronicta, probably the first record of the subfamily Acronictinae from South America. #iNaturalist inaturalist.org/observations/1…

#moths are amazing at mimicking anything nature as to offer, they sit all day waiting for darkness and need to escape predation in any way possible. Here are few crazy examples that came for a visit at our #AMI monitoring systems #insects #macrophotography #NaturePhotography

I spend a LOT of time volunteering for Bionomia Here, its creator @dpsSpiders, gives a great presentation on Bionomia and why biologists should get involved, both for themselves and for folk they admire. youtube.com/watch?v=080BgH…

I'm very proud of this paper! The first one published that demonstrates that we can use our new #insectarium immersive space as a controled system where we can test various eco/evo/devo hypotheses related to #plants and #insects

This Copiopteryx moth also came to our lights. Recent research has shown that those "tails" actually confuse the echolocation of bats, keeping the moth safe as it flies! #AutomatedMonitoringOfInsects

Hot off the press - evolutionary history of burnet moths - by Mirela Miric for her Master's in collaboration with K. Efetov, G. Tarmann, Andrea Chiocchio, Maria Heikkilä, and D. Wagner. Also have a look at Appendix 1 for a careful review of zygaenid fossils. resjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/sy…
