Manipulating photos, audio and video is easier than ever due to tools like #AI. To combat the threat of deepfakes and shallowfakes, UMD Department of Computer Science' Nirupam Roy and his team developed a tool called TalkLock to verify the authenticity of audiovisual recordings. go.umd.edu/deep-fake

#ArtificialIntelligence has made creating deepfakes easier and more accessible than ever. UMD Department of Computer Science' Nirupam Roy spoke with WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore's Khiree Stewart (Khiree Stewart) about how his new tool TalkLock verifies the authenticity of audiovisual recordings.wbaltv.com/article/maryla…

UMD Department of Computer Science WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore Khiree Stewart The WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore crew came to #UMD yesterday for a demo of TalkLock, a tool from UMD Department of Computer Science' Nirupam Roy that uses a cryptographic QR code system to verify deepfakes and shallowfakes. Nirupam's team hopes to release a #MobileApp by summer: go.umd.edu/deep-fake

Here are our very own Nirupam Roy and Irtaza Shahid explaining how our system TalkLock can detect deepfakes wbaltv.com/article/maryla…

Overflowing with success!! Congratulations to our very own Aritrik Ghosh and his team for winning Hackster.io "Hack in the Box" competition hackster.io/news/meet-the-…

How do smart devices spy on users? At Science on Tap this Wednesday (4/17), UMD Department of Computer Science' Nirupam Roy will shed light on his exploration of the security/privacy vulnerabilities of #SmartTechnology. Register to attend this talk on privacy in the age of #AI: go.umd.edu/sot0424

Honored to receive the fellowship from Univ. of Maryland for our low-power IoT work

Had an awesome time presenting my work at IEEE ICASSP. Had some insightful discussions and got great feedback for future work

Visitors to #MarylandDay were able to speak with Nirupam Roy & students in icosmos.umd about their ongoing work involving preventing #deepfakes, low-power acoustic imaging, disaster resilience through wireless infrastructures, and more. #FearlesslyUMD

Proud advisor moment! Nakul (Nakul Garg) has been awarded the prestigious Marconi Society Young Scholar Award 2024! 🏆His groundbreaking work in large-scale sustainable computing and innovative approaches to low-power embedded perception is opening new frontiers. icosmos.umd

"Alexa... I'm signing the document in the air!" 😊 icosmos.umd presented technique to detect drawings and even signatures on voice assistants) at UbiComp 2024. Can be a new multi-factor authentication. Congratulations to Yang Bai, Irtaza Shahid, and Harshvardhan Takawale.

Nakul(Nakul Garg) defended his Ph.D. thesis! An incredible journey founded on perseverance and an indomitable passion for innovation. I have yet to see a project Nakul worked on that didn’t win an award! He will join Rice as a faculty member this July. Keep rowing, Dr. Garg!
