I'm wrapping up my series on Pensacola, Fla.'s St. Michael's Cemetery today. A sailor's early death, a possible double murder, and two cast iron grave markers are just part of what I share. bit.ly/44Y2ir5

Fort Rosencrans National Cemetery in San Diego, Calif. on the Point Loma Peninsula. It was one of seven national cemeteries created between world wars, 1934–1939. Over 120,000 are buried/interred here. That’s my son sitting under the tree.

Been gone all week in San Diego. Visited a few cemeteries but on family trips like this, I try to be strategic. We were up near Torrey Pines so we stopped by to say hello to McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc (1902-1984) at El Camino Memorial Park.

I saw this at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego. I’ve never seen one that said “and friends” on it before. There’s a stand alone double vault in the middle for a husband/wife, the husband died in 2015. Wife still alive. There are spaces on the sides for future interments.

Adventures in Cemetery Hopping Friends of Lister Lane Cemetery (KAVS) Necro Tourist Real Jose Galvan Ross Roy 🇨🇦 StudeTom doristhehat Memorial Restoration & Safety Eagle Granite I'm surprised more families don't do this, like for the bachelor brother in law, etc. I try to peek in when possible, and it's rare that all the spaces are occupied. I've got a relative in this one (d. 1920), he's the only occupant. Wife buried with parents.

I was wandering around Fort Rosencrans National Cemetery in San Diego and came across this grave for Col. John Dayton Counselman (1923-2008). Col. Counselman served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, Korea, AND Vietnam. He truly gave his life to the military.
