It's interesting that we have a well-evidenced and definitive answer to "Why did all the salmon over 40 lbs. disappear" but it is illegal to implement any of the simple, almost-free policy changes we'd need to bring them back.

In the old days everyone who lived around a given salmon run had separate terms for up to 10 distinct subpops of that run. "Bluebacks", "Upper River Brights", etc. are the last remnants of this culture, today mostly lost. Did you know salmon come in all the colors of steel?

The "salmon decline IS a monocausal issue ... and the issue is HYDROELECTRIC DAMS" has got to be one of the most successful ops of all time, I've never seen something spread that fast. Applause to the Chevron counsel or whoever piloted that.

To follow up for my followers, here is a list of things which have never been shown to affect "tyee" in North of Falcon: - Removing dams - "Factory trawlers", Chinese or otherwise - Reducing or closing so-called recreational fishing - Consumer demand for "wild" salmon

If you search "Boldt Decision" on this website 90% of the posts that come up are my own. Am I being "coy"? A better question to ask would be: If the Ninth Circuit called this case the most "comprehensive & complex" they ever heard, the "advent" of an entirely new kind of law,

Imagine you were in a horror movie and you found a desperate, pleading missive that a previous homeowner had to hide in his own walls because it'd be too dangerous to warn people publicly. I guess it makes sense to dismiss it out-of-hand, that's what the guy in the movie does.

The number one tribal corp argument is that they need to be able to close "recreational" salmon fishing in a given area for conservation reasons. Without the ability to ban reccies, rivers and marine areas will exceed their exploitation rates (ERs) and salmon populations will

Over the last 4 or so years, one of the parties involved in decades-long stochastic warfare over ownership of the mouth of the salmon-bearing Dungeness River was successfully able to use state funds to relocate a specific key dyke, citing a desire to restore salmon habitat.

Making random meals for hogs is truly unparalleled chore, sort of like when girls make fancy bowls for their pet dogs except if it smelled lowkey appetizing. Imagine salad of fresh barley fodder, room temp whey, apples, dark beer ...

Not so true for Western tribes, it happened lots and was well-documented. But some of the most infamous cases are more complex than you would think. For example, the Cayuse war chief The Five Crows actually made a humble entreaty to the kidnapped Lorinda Bewley, saying that
