You’ve probably seen those I-83 signs around the city. We answered any questions you might have about the ballot initiative, which seeks to bring ranked-choice voting and open primaries to D.C. (And yes, we found out why the signs have cherries on them.) 51st.news/ranked-choice-…

I am SO glad Martin Austermuhle has an explainer of that ranked-choice voting initiative (aka Initiative 83) at The 51st this week. Clear, helpful community journalism like this is why I am a proud subscriber! 51st.news/ranked-choice-…

In the Wilson Building Bulletin, we’ll round up some of the top-line issues facing the powers that be and the public they (allegedly) answer to. This week: a 911 agency hearing, a push to end child marriage, and a DCHA check-in. buff.ly/4eY88LC

Billionaires should never interfere in journalism. We don't want readers to abandon Washington Post journalists, but we do want them to think more expansively about supporting and building new models for local news, free from corporate control. buff.ly/3YqwS8q

Nobody told me caring about sports was so draining and time intensive, what do you mean there's ANOTHER game tonight? Don't we all deserve a little break from the stress? Anyway go Dodgers.

Interesting: Mayor Muriel Bowser and Office of Unified Communications are launching a new public awareness campaign to discourage people from calling 911 for non-emergencies. In FY24, OUC handled 1.2 million 911 calls, and they say that almost a fourth of these calls were non-emergencies.

It snowed two weeks ago in D.C. Lots of sidewalks weren't cleared. It snowed again over the weekend, and we're in a deep freeze. In short, so many sidewalks are icy death traps. D.C., we can do better! 51st.news/everything-you…
