Listener Joanne Ryan captured this picture of a Yellow-Crowned Night Heron in Belcarra Co. Mayo yesterday. The North American bird has been spotted in Ireland for the first time. It is believed the bird may have arrived, after getting caught up in a hurricane system last Autumn.

Tonight on "Mooney Goes Wild" (RTE Radio One at 10pm) I meet farmer Dermot Doran. Dermot recently dug a large pond on his farm. He then added a sand martin wall and now has approx. 40 nests occupied this year. Helping nature works. Well worth a listen. Mooney Goes Wild Sand Martin Wall

Thank you to David Moore, who spotted this Dipper on the Carrowbeg river in the centre of Westport. It was his first time seeing one so close to town.
