Plenty of talk about having a wind limit for the discus in the wake of these monster throws in Ramona...

My question? How would you measure wind in the discus? Sprints are easy to measure. It's a North/South event where ground level measurement is all that matters.

Wilcox Track & Field Beau Throws Now the debate over wind aided discus throws is really going to heat up. For all of the times discus throwers have to throw in the worst conditions possible, they deserve to have an optimal wind once in a great while………

Wilcox Track & Field Beau Throws Our guess is the throw would have been about 220’ on a still day. The wind was good for at least 20’, possibly 30’. We always thought 224’ by Mac Wilkins at the ‘76 Olympics was perhaps the greatest throw of all time. Montreal’s Stadium was almost entirely enclosed, zero wind.

Wilcox Track & Field Beau Throws True.
As stated prior, for all the crappy days and horrible facilities that discus throwers had to endure, it’s only more than fair to get optimal conditions once in a while - especially for those from the Northeast and Upper Midwest……..
