I’m so excited to share this glimpse into our research towards passing the visual Turing test. Norman Chan covers the latest on varifocal, retinal resolution, distortion, HDR, Holocake, and more. Several prototypes will be shown at SIGGRAPH 2022, including a demo of our HDR headset.

What will it take to pass the visual Turing test? But first, what *is* the visual Turing test? Know more about the incredible work Douglas Lanman’s Display Systems Research (DSR) team at Reality Labs is doing to answer this question: tech.fb.com/ar-vr/2022/06/…

Kudos to Douglas Lanman and the entire Display Systems Research team for bringing home the #SIGGRAPH2022 Emerging Technologies Best in Show award! []-)

I'm mostly an instagram poster but Douglas Lanman pointed out that a lot of the research community is here so I should work through a backlog of publication updates. But instagram is still a better place to find me.

A new paper we worked on with Prof. Felix Heide's group is out now in Nature Communications. This project, led by Ethan Tseng, continues our program exploring possible architectures for holographic near-eye displays. See Felix's post below for more info

I'll be giving a talk on our PEA-PODs work at SIGGRAPH on Monday! Come by if you're interested in VR/AR, displays, and perceptual studies. I'm presenting on behalf of my coauthors Thomas Wan, Nathan Matsuda, Ajit Ninan, Alex Chapiro, Qi Sun. 10:45am MDT session @ Mile High 3C

Excited to reveal a really, really cool Pixar ‘Toy Story’ 30th anniversary event is happening at ACM SIGGRAPH this year! Also, we can exclusively reveal there will be some special give-aways and surprises on the day for those who attend the screening. beforesandafters.com/2025/05/11/a-r…
