It's funny anyone who starts growing food for self sufficiency reasons pretty quickly learns annual vegetables shouldn't be the backbone because they provide almost no substantive calories. Established perennials, root veg, and of course meat and eggs quickly follow.

I think even people who live in them don’t fully appreciate the sheer volume and economic power of American suburbs. Endless acres of huge houses, yards, machines of convenience. The battery of American economic power and influence. Hard to fathom.
