The data is out - and there is both good news and bad news. Good news: Across all ethnicities, births went up in 2023 compared to 2022. This is largely due to post-pandemic recovery. Bad news for Chinese: Births are still less than deaths. The Chinese population is shrinking.

I have mixed feelings about this bill. The good things are it gives citizenship to children born in foreign countries to Malaysian mothers. But there are 3 regressive provisions which will worsen statelessness. I am not going to celebrate the passing of this bill.
