The term “misogynoir”, coined by queer black feminist Moya Bailey, addresses the intersectionality of sexism and racism against black girls. In 2017, it was reported that Black girls were 11x more likely to get suspended from school than their white peers, not because they (2/5)

were misbehaving more, but because they were being judged more harshly. Studies show that girls are more likely to experience abuse, PTSD, and depression as a result of adultification and over-punishment. (3/5)

In the four short years that I have been working at HomeWorks, I have seen how these harmful narratives have affected the way our girls view themselves. We have a lot of work to do to fight against these systemic injustices, and we will continue to do so at HomeWorks by (4/5)

I teach a course on race in legal history. I always teach Asian American history in that course because you cannot teach serious history of US law as an instrument of racial injustice without the history of Asian Americans...
