National Safe-Motherhood Expert Committee (NASMEC) , in collaboration with Ministry of Health- Uganda and UCREPP, is conducting a hands-on training on Assisted Vaginal Delivery(AVD) ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ . This follows findings from the 2023 EmONC needs assessment(๐๐ฟUNFPA Uganda ) that highlighted low AVD performance nationwide.


This morning we flagged off our National Training of Trainers in Assisted Vaginal delivery KAWEMPE NATIONAL REFERRAL HOSPITAL. This is aimed at building capacity of our frontline healthcare workers in the provision of this service for mothers who clinically qualify National Safe-Motherhood Expert Committee (NASMEC) Ministry of Health- Uganda UNFPA Uganda.


We have successfully concluded Day 1 of the Assisted Vaginal Delivery (AVD) Training at Kawempe National ReferralHospital, organized by National Safe-Motherhood Expert Committee (NASMEC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health- Uganda . AVD is a critical skill that reduces the burden of Caesarean Sections.


AVD Training Day 2 ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ค Strengthening AVD skills has potential to lower surgical burden(Caesarean Section rate) with associated complications, costs, and risks.

Wrapping up a successful training on Assisted Vaginal Delivery at ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ , organized by National Safe-Motherhood Expert Committee (NASMEC) and Ministry of Health- Uganda with support from UCREPP. 13 facilities received KIWIs donated by Dr. Nolens Barbara to support safer births. Grateful for this boost to maternal care!


In our quest to put the right tools, clinical guidelines and protocols in maternal and newborn care, close to and with easy access to the frontline healthcare workers, SafeMama is now our go to platform. The NSMC 2025 will take place place from 22nd to 24th October 2025. We invite abstracts in a range of areas that are critical to addressing preventable maternal and newborn deaths.
