A tornado touched down in the Dortches community at 12:36 this afternoon. Nash County Emergency Services are currently evaluating the damage.

Please shelter in place if you are in or around the Dortches Community. The area is unsafe with downed trees and power lines.

Nash County Emergency Services toured impact areas from yesterday's tornado with Secretary of the NC Department of Public Safety Eddie Buffaloe, Secretary of Commerce Machelle Baker Sanders, Representative Allen Chesser, and House Speaker Tim Moore.

Governor Roy Cooper visited Nash County this weekend to tour the areas devastated by last week's tornado. Traveling with the Governor were state and local officials as well as staff from Nash County Emergency Services and the Sheriff's Office.

Our tornado debris pickup will pause over the weekend, but they will be back at it again Monday. Please get your natural debris and construction/demo debris in two separate piles near your street as soon as possible. As of Thursday, we had collected 2921 cubic yards of debris!

Our contractor has been hard at work this week collecting tornado debris on their final pass through the affected area. Before they started on Monday, they had already collected 9,520 cubic yards. We will check back at the end of this final pass to see the total numbers.
