This could get crazy if true. Telegram messages are not encrypted. France is trying to arrest the CEO of a Russian team that has plaintext access to every message the French president has ever sent or received.. “Macron has been a Telegram user since…” politico.eu/article/telegr…

When choosing messaging platforms, remember that it's not just your privacy at stake but also the privacy of those you interact with. With so many secure, easy-to-use e2ee options available, it's fair and right to use them when someone's privacy needs require it.

Alarming to see Telegram downloads surge since Pavel's arrest. Here's a reminder of why you shouldn't use Telegram. Your msgs are far less secure if you rely on someone's word to keep them safe than if you rely on math (especially if that person is currently in police custody).

Combine Google's massive surveillance power with the world's most lethal military, & you get a problem: Overclassification by the government + Corporate secrecy in tech = Zero accountability Great interview from Meredith Whittaker wired.com/story/meredith… web.archive.org/web/2024082901…

"The use of criminal charges to coerce social media companies is a pretty worrying escalation" đź’Ż Fantastic article from one of the best experts in the industry, explaining why Telegram is no more an "encrypted messaging app" than Facebook or Twitter.

Elon Musk Elon Musk is there a way for people to set up proxy servers so that people can still connect to X in Brazil? I set up a Signal proxy server to help people in Iran connect during the protests. Would be great to allow people to do the same with X. youtu.be/V-zgeSGDx34

These are the best privacy books I've ever read, highly recommend if you're looking for a deep dive into adding privacy to all areas of your life.

Ok Mullvad VPN is the example of security *by design*: The company does not store any form of data (no IPs, no logs.) They don’t even offer recurring subscriptions (!!) because doing so would force them to store data that can identify people. No affiliation: just awesome

LOTs of people recommending "safe" VPNs without having actually researched any of their own recommendations. Be careful which VPN you install, there are many that harvest data & steal credentials. 2 VPNs that I like are Mullvad.net & Proton VPN 🛡️ Some 🚩s to watch for: 📺:

Ok folks, I know this is the last thing you want to think about. But it looks like the Hungarian government is planning to bring ChatControl (the EU CSAM reg) back. If they get positive feedback it could be up for a vote as soon as October.

"What we’re trying to do is give people the power and the convenience of cloud storage but with privacy, and with control over the data ultimately residing with the consumer." Great to see platforms increasingly consider privacy as a value proposition! Watching this project 👀
