A Geometric Sea Snake (Hydrophis czeblukovi) from our recent trip to NW Western Australia, found at the surface in water approximately 60m deep. One of only a handful recorded due to their remote habitat.

A Prong-snouted Blind Snake (Anilios bituberculatus). These are secretive ant larvae eaters that are rarely seen, but in the right conditions can be spectacularly abundant. Ardrossan, SA.

Sea snakes! Emily Jackson presents her research on “The natural history and stranding of the yellow-bellied sea snake (Hydrophis platurus), along the South African coastline”Very interesting that most strandings observed in her study were gravid females! 🌊 🐍

Lizard lovers, travelers, grey nomads, & sandgropers, lend me your ears: If you’re in Western Australia and come across a dead thorny devil, we’d love to have it as part of our genetic assessment of the species across its range. *Especially* if it’s from btwn Perth and Shark Bay.

It was great to meet so many local sea snake enthusiasts at the Exmouth Research Lab lab open day on the weekend! 🐍🌊 Uni of Adelaide scientists enjoyed busting some common sea snake myths, as they introduced our community to 4 species of snakes found in the Exmouth Gulf.

Over the last 2 days I've done quite a few interviews/stories about 8 new Pacific Hylaeus bees we described. I think that MOST bee descriptions in Australia over the last decade have been described at the South Australian Museum. That's under threat... t.ly/g0G4q 1/4
