Fast Buck running at Taunton Jane Williams Racing Ciarán Gethings . Fit and well but ground a bit faster than ideal and suspect the younger legs may have him on this ground but hope he runs well

How about some theories and investigation as to why that is the case? What has changed? The larger Point to Point young stock scene? NH breeding weakening? High number of quality flat stayers exported? Impact of French NH breeding vs IRE? chris cook Lydia Hislop Lee Mottershead

Great article and great idea. The National has changed enormously and qualification, especially now it’s down to 34 runners, needs to alter to match. The race currently takes away from the NH season as a whole, it’s time it improves it

We have a Grand National Trial at Haydock today where only 2 of the 10 in the field have any chance of running the National itself (Fontaine Collonges needs 13 to come out to run). Surely it's time where races like the National Trial become "Win and you're in" races?

Surely all G1s at the festival should have a prestige name which never changes? Previous champions should have races named in their honour and much easier for everyone involved. Sponsors want their name used when sponsoring and they can be, but they do change regularly

Great run from Saint Segal to finish 3rd today, but hats off to Sean Bowen 🎩 👏truly extraordinary ride and it wasn’t a one off, he keeps doing it. Special ride from a sublime talent

Lots of questions to ask regarding Hereford Racecourse today. Firstly why British Horseracing Authority are allowing such a poorly funded card during a prime Saturday slot? Why are ITV Racing covering a 0-140 worth less than £8k to the winner? Are DragonBet happy with the prizemoney offered?

It could do the opposite with horses with a high enough mark scared to run in winter in case mark drops. What would be interesting is that each handicap has a set of ‘Win and You’re In’ races (not qualifiers) through season. What are the downsides of this?

Seriously smart 2yo son of Golden Horn and guess what? He’s for sale! Great physical, perfect temperament and from a family of winners.

Completely right. Maybe people’s experience has been underwhelming which needs addressing (this year sounds much better) but the price is in line or cheaper than any top sporting event

Kenny has been a star for us and his team of owners. Pleasure to train and an absolute gentleman. He’s now off for a well earned happy retirement

A horse like Mr Vango would add a lot to the race. Now the field is capped at 34 runners, a better system of allocating places needs finding. Again a ‘win and your in’ system with 10 qualifying races would be a great idea, as long as horse is in the handicap.
