The November MillerPulse Business Conditions Report confirms a main driver of 2021’s food inflation stems from labor intensive proteins in tight labor markets. Compared to long term averages, chicken breast and jumbo wing prices are highest, at 54% and 47%, respectively.

In a recent article provided to NAFEM members, ITR Economics states that inflation and supply chain constraints will ease somewhat in 2022 as demand softens, but the situation won’t be suddenly snapping back to pre-pandemic norms.

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) launches an effort next month to collect data for greater reliability of the cargo delivery system. Findings will be presented spring 2022. NAFEM will monitor discussions and encourage industry participation. fmc.gov
