Just to break it down for South Dakota Annual-100.6% WWS as % of demand (78.4% wind; 26% hydro; 1.18% solar) Sum 23-75.4% WWS Aut 23-108% WWS Win 24-109% WWS Spr 24-132% WWS Just adding more solar + batteries will get SD to >100% #WindWaterSolar every season and 24/7/365

And not to be outdone, on the first day of September, California, the world's 5th-largest economy, answers with its 105th day of the year that #WindWaterSolar supply exceeds 100% of main-grid demand for part of the day.

Fossil gas use declined on the California ISO grid by 29% Mar 7-Sep 4, 2024 vs 2023 due to a 103% growth in battery output and 11% growth in #WWS output (led by 29% more solar & 6% more wind) DESPITE a 3 F hotter period in 2024. And no blackouts.

Solar crushes gas. Solar alone provided 9% more electricity than fossil gas on California's main grid from March 7-September 4, 2024 (30,915 GWh v 28,370 GWh). In 2023 during the same period, fossil gas provided 24% more electricity than did solar (39,865 GWh v 24,033 GWh).

Someone explain to me why any fossil gas is needed on the grid when we can just ramp up distributed and utility solar PV, batteries, offshore wind, and demand response?
