There is overwhelming research showing homework does little to improve achievement, especially in early years, and can actually have negative effects. Recess however has many positive effects such as improved self regulation of emotions, improved interpersonal skills and focus!

Admin, when you drop in the class for a visit, maybe check to see if the teacher needs anything, like running to restroom, or bring them a water/ coffee. The little things are the big things in the daily grind!

Todays doodle: Spending 15 minutes at the end of a working day to reflect can help us to really switch off & stop those nagging thoughts - start a journal or just jot it down!

If superintendents don't trust principals enough to run a school autonomously then don't hire them. Principals can't focus on staff/ school needs, if they're constantly looking over their shoulder. School stability is key to student success & stability begins w/the Principal!

Effective classroom management begins with: Showing respect Building relationships Establishing routines, procedures High expectations Helping feel valued and supported Make class relevant Have fun What else?

Most of the greatness that occurs in the classroom is not measurable on a standardized tests. A student finally getting a concept. Making friends in play & recess. Having teachers who genuinely care about them and help them become their best. Who value & believe in them.

Effective teachers don't focus so much on rules, but more on relationships, routines, & expectations. If you focus mainly on rules, you will spend most of the year enforcing what not to do. But if you focus on the rest, then your focus is on what to do.
