All set to start this year’s Dawn Chorus along with Declan Murphy deep in Wicklow woodlands ⁦Mooney Goes Wild⁩

Spotted this beauty while out on a butterfly walk with Jesmond Harding (Butterfly Conservation Ireland). Jesmond informed me that it is a Narrow Bordered Bee Hawk Moth (and not a bumblebee) and they fly by day in May and June in grasslands, moorlands and woodland habitat.

Tonight on “Mooney Goes Wild” (RTÉ Radio One at 10pm) I catch up with Jesmond Harding of Butterfly Conservation Ireland as we stroll along the Co. Kildare countryside checking out the butterflies present including this one, Ireland’s most protected insect, the Marsh fritillary

A well trodden on clump of Subterranean Clover near Coverack, Cornwall today. Flowers are about 3-5mm long. Trifolium subterraneum #wildflowerhour

Amazing to capture the famous "Weed Dance" between a courting pair of Great Crested Grebe this morning. We have been following them on Lough Ennell for 3 months now and they are truly captivating!
