U.S. Marine dog Lucca, after receiving the PDSA Dickin Medal. The 12yo German Shepherd lost her leg in Afghanistan from a 30-pound IED. Lucca completed more than 400 missions in Iraq and Afghanistan during six years of active service protecting the lives of thousands of troops.

Charles E. Mower of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on November 3, 1944, near Capoocan, Leyte, in the Phillippines. He was just 19 years old.

MSG Roy Benavidez, Green Beret (MACV-SOG) and MOH recipient. He had 37 separate bullet, bayonet and shrapnel wounds, exposed intestines, a broken jaw and his eyes caked with blood. He was pronounced dead until he spit in the doctor’s face who was zipping him up in a body bag.

Just thinking about all the Marines and friends I have lost in Iraq. It has been 21 years since my best friend 2ndLt Ryan Leduc died in Iraq in 2004. There is not a day that goes by that they are not in my thoughts and prayers. We will NEVER forget! They will always live on in
