“Her favorite color was teal,” says Temple University student Ghia Ledwidge, describing her roommate Milan Jones. Jones, 20, was killed over the weekend by her boyfriend Tymir Lackey, 21, also a Temple student, according to Philadelphia Police Department. Ledwidge says her friend’s death is surreal.
The Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, Cherelle Parker, announced that 25 Philadelphia Schools will offer year round instruction as part of a pilot program. Mastery Charter School Pickett Campus is one of those schools. The mayor says year round school will close the enrichment gap & help students succeed.

It was a busy day at Widener University in Chester as hundreds of students moved into their dorms. Widener is welcoming the largest incoming first-year class in the university’s 203-year history. Monday is the first day of class.
Rosie McKenna, a 6-year-old girl from Havertown battling brain cancer, is in for the surprise of a lifetime. Volunteers with the Philadelphia Phillies transformed her bedroom while she was at school. There are Phillies hats and blankets, along with 900 baseball cards on the ceiling.
