I’m seeing these huge gaps with friends with complex kids, going before me into the adult world. And it is my greatest anxiety that we will have to brace ourselves for this too. Healthcare is NOT ready for our children.

CIHR Wow. The difference between how the researchers see this post…and the individuals with lived experience is quite telling of a larger problem with privilege, power dynamics and humility. This isn’t funny. It’s embarrassing for CIHR and anyone in the thread having a laugh.

So, I’m going to try to comment on this without sarcasm. This is not an apology. An apology requires that you acknowledge you did something wrong - ie not ‘we hurt the community’, but rather ‘our post had the consequence of belittling patients’

Regular reminder that systems and org's put a ton of responsibility on #Patients to advocate for themselves in places where they don't hold the power. I really wish that energy could be used to collaborate/move forward together instead.
