The highlight of our #BreakfastBirdwatch today was some Red-winged blackbirds. We're seeing a lot more blackbirds in the area recently, and have had 20+ at the feeders at once. Be sure to look out for them at your feeders! #muskoka #BreakfastBirdwatch

We had 12 species on our #BreakfastBirdwatch today. Some new arrivals like Song sparrows, but also plenty of regulars. One of those is a Mourning dove, which often feed underneath our feeders on fallen seeds. What notable species are your getting on your #BreakfastBirdwatch?

A nice sunny morning is perfect for a #BreakfastBirdwatch. Today's highlight is a Common grackle, something we're seeing quite a lot of these days. Their feathers are iridescent, which makes them appear different colours depending on how the sunlight hits them. #muskoka

If you listen early in the morning, you can hear lots of bird song from all the returning birds. Song sparrows are one of the more recent migrants coming back to feeders, but they can be flighty and hard to photograph. What did you see this morning on your #BreakfastBirdwatch?

Birds may not be the only thing that you see on your #BreakfastBirdwatch. We pften get red squirrels at our feeders. Sometimes called the tree rattlesnake, you can often hear their loud rattle call before you see them. What birds or other critters did you see today in #Muskoka?

How was your #BreakfastBirdwatch? Our highlight today is the Black-capped chickadee, a bird which is seen at almost every feeder. One of the most common birds we see at the feeder, they're not scared of humans and you can often get them to feed right out of your hand. #muskoka

Today our #BreakfastBirdwatch had a surprising visitor. We had a Sandhill crane fly over the house. You can hear its loud rattling flight call from almost 5 kilometers away, but we were lucky enough to see it as well as it few over. Anyone get any unusual species this morning?

The snowy weather is still around, but some of the birds look much more colourful set against a white backdrop. Our highlight from our #BreakfastBirdwatch was all the American robins hopping around our yard and feeding off the fruit trees.

Today during our #BreakfastBirdwatch we managed to finally get a photo of the elusive Northern cardinal! They're one of the first and last birds that frequent feeders, so often we see them earlier than our birdwatch starts.

With the snow all but gone, you should be seeing more mammal activity as well at your feeders. We have two different species of squirrel that frequent our feeders and chipmunks have started to join them. Keep an eye out for all types of nature in your backyard!

A group of starlings is called a mumuration or a chattering. Most of our #BreakfastBirdwatch have at least one mumuration that comes to visit. European starlings are technically introduced species, but they've been established in Ontario for a long time.

This wildlife sighting wasn't during our #BreakfastBirdwatch, but still a very cool thing to see. Last Saturday, we found a Northern watersnake emerging from a possible hibernaculum. Even though the weather is cold, animals of all shapes and sizes are starting to move again.

We had less birds today than usual on our #BreakfastBirdwatch, but we starting to see the return of many birds with spring migration starting. The American goldfinches are also gaining back their colour, which they lose for most of the summer.

With Giving Tuesday approaching, it's nice to think about what the donations we receive go towards. Here's a nice infographic about what donations from our supporters have managed to do. Your support is what makes all of this possible. Thank you!
