This electrical machine was used at The Foundery Chapel in the 1700s to treat toothache, stiff joints and blindness by generating static shocks! John Wesley's first London chapel offered free healthcare to Londoners unable to afford healthcare in the Moorfields area at the time.

John Wesley's Chapel was completed in 1778. In Victorian times, a basement toilet block was added, which survives to this day. As well as Thomas Crapper flush toilets, there are original sinks and urinals carved from red and black marble! #WesleysChapel

This chair in John Wesley's House has an unusual design, being usable by facing forwards or backwards, legs astride the backrest. It is known as a cockfighter chair, and is said to have been given to Wesley by a bookmaker influenced by him to mend his ways. #WesleysChapel #Chair

This money box in the museum collection dates back to the early 1800s. It depicts a simple Methodist chapel at a time when many were being built. John Wesley encouraged his followers to, "Earn all you can, Save all you can, Give all you can." #WesleysChapel

Following John Wesley's death in 1791, sales ceramic items featuring his image boomed. These Staffordshire creamware teapots in the collection were made in the late 1700s. Collectively these commemorative items are known as "Wesleyana." Perhaps you have some at home?! #Wesleyana

Just a few weeks left to visit our summer exhibition, Lux! Students from @TheLeysSchool have produced superb works exploring light and faith. Nerissa's stunning piece explores how we hold onto connection when words may no longer be fully understood or remembered. #WesleysChapel

These boots were worn by Rev. Dr. Inderjit Bhogal, a retired Methodist minister with Sikh roots. Inderjit wanted to improve understanding and friendship between those of different faiths, and he wore them on protest marches supporting cultural understanding. #BlackHistoryMonth

This gourd in the Museum shows Rev. Thomas Birch Freeman preaching. In 1835, he was one of the first Methodist missionaries in today's Ghana. The son of an African father and English mother, he started schools and agriculture projects and spoke against slavery. #BlackHistoryMonth
