Lots of commentary - from more-in-sorrow-than-in-anger both-sidesism to declamatory outrage - abt what Israel shouldn't do. Not many useful ideas abt what Israel *should* do. Presumably, just let Hamas carry on as before? Because that, functionally, is what's being demanded here.

If you're concerned about the misery inflicted on the residents of Gaza - and well you might be; human misery is never to be disregarded - you could start by acknowledging that Hamas has for 16 years now controlled the area, stolen its resources and trashed its infrastructure...

...while so far as their neighbour Egypt is concerned, the people of Gaza can literally drop dead. But then, as ever, the fervent support of the West's self-professed pro-Palestinians extends only to when those Palestinians' antagonists are Jews. Funny, that.

We have never seen a more graphic example of the double standards applied to Israel than the wave of condemnation that erupted when people thought the IDF were responsible for the hospital attack, followed by the silence accompanying the realisation it was Hamas or their proxies.
