All set for my penultimate TV football commentary of the season, in Bahrain for the hosts v Saudi Arabia. Saudi need a hatful of goals to keep alive their slim hopes of automatic qualification while Bahrain need a win to help secure a spot in the next round. KO is 7pm local time.

Just finished this superb book by Stephen Brenkley about a Test cricket series almost 100 years ago. Wonderfully written, outstandingly researched & includes pen-pics of the players dotted throughout the narrative. This is well worth your time…

I was proud to commentate on this innings for Rapid Cricketline alongside Alan Knott, Clive Lloyd & Ralph Dellor. It was just four months after a disastrous Ashes tour of Australia, my first overseas trip as a journalist covering the England team. A wonderful memory 34 years ago.

A sensational game of cricket & another illustration of the quality that exists below the ICC Full Members. It makes me lament - again - for the loss of the World Cup Super League…

The One Test Wonders podcast with Andy is a moving chat about misfortune & making the best of life thereafter. Give it a listen. Thanks for the reminder Darren…

And my podcast, One Test Wonders, where Andy talks about this, can be heard here. It’s well worth your time, believe me: buzzsprout.com/1822009/910322…

A terrific cricketer, a terrific role-model & someone you always knew would give absolutely everything whenever he walked on the field. There were no half-measures with ‘Syd’ - RIP

One of the iconic moments of televised cricket & an illustration of the quality on show in county cricket in the 1970s - Mike Procter (plus Zaheer Abbas & Sadiq Mohammad) versus Barry Richards & Gordon Greenidge (plus Andy Roberts)…

One thing I have really enjoyed about #ENGvIND at Headingley is the way the spectators are applauding the performances of both sets of players. In an era of increasing jingoism & tribalism it’s refreshing to see supporters appreciating good play, no matter who it’s by.

Even by ⁦⁦Andrew Fidel Fernando⁩ (stratospheric) standards this is magnificent & well worth your time. Thanks to ⁦Osman Samiuddin⁩ for giving it oxygen. The need to do that somehow feels appropriate given the nature of the article. espncricinfo.com/story/asitha-f… espncricinfo.com/story/asitha-f…

There’s no doubting Cristiano Ronaldo has been an all-time great & his longevity is incredible, but with so much poverty in the world, surely this can’t be right. How much money is enough for the super-rich?
