Teacher tip from ONlit.org embedded picture mnemonics launch party: use packing tip to create a flip book so Se always can refer to the reference pg at the beginning of their notebook/duo-tang etc & can flip it to the pg they are on. Melissa Monette Smith brilliant idea! Thank you!

ONlit.org launched their embedded mnemonics project today! Loved how Una Malcolm (she/her) explained the research, time and thought process that went into making this resource along with the wonderful Kate Winn and Melissa Monette Smith.

And we are back! How do you spend your time during kiddos practices? Any good reads on the go? As I dive deeper into text set research and creation, thought it might be time to read this gem!

Know better do better! A post I made in 2009 a few years out of teacher’s college using the tools I was given to do the best I could. I’m ever grateful to a retired teacher who ‘guided’ me in a different direction.

Morning routines: oral language with this or that and phonics routine with whiteboards and markers! Both very simple. Both extremely effective.

We've heard lots of great questions about screening recently! Some of the Oral Reading Fluency passages can seem challenging, especially for young readers. Melissa Monette Smith highlights why the passages in this incredibly powerful measure aren't decodable.

Today’s #LitLearn2025 kicked off with Melissa Monette Smith sharing the power of purposeful read-alouds — even during snack time! I remember Kate Winn mentioning this too on the @IDAontario #ReadingRoadTrip podcast. Love this idea!
