One of my most prized possessions is this autographed book by President Jimmy Carter. It was an honor to be in his presence as he signed it. President Carter was the quintessential public servant and the very definition of a good man. May he rest in peace.
There’s something about watching Jimmy Carter’s casket on the way to his funeral at National Cathedral, on the precipice of a change of leadership in today’s White House, that feels like the end of leadership by great men who are also good men. It’s weighing heavily on my heart.
Too many politicians talk when they should listen. I believe that public service is too important for political nonsense — and that's the approach I'll take as Virginia's next Governor.
