Ticks aren't just in wooded areas. They can be in fields and even your backyard! Check children and pets when they come in from the outdoors.

Rural roads were more dangerous than those in urban areas for drivers and passengers in 2023. This Rural Road Safety Awareness Week, drive safely at all times — no matter what road you're traveling on.

During Rural Road Safety Awareness Week, OHSP is reminding everyone that some rural roads don’t have a shoulder. That means walkers, runners, kids on bikes, and folks just trying to get somewhere are sharing the lane with you. So, slow it down, stay alert and share the road with

Drivers — watch for bicyclists, especially in hard-to-see conditions, like at night or when it's raining. 🌙🌧️ Bicyclists — make sure to wear high-vis gear and follow the rules of the road. 🚴

PLEASE do not go into the lake on red flag days! 6 - 8 ft waves look really cool and should be enjoyed from the shore but are dangerous even for the most accomplished swimmers.

The rural road doesn’t always give you the full picture, so drive for what you can’t see. Expect the unexpected – especially on hills, tree-lined roads, and sharp bends. Out here, every curve could hold someone’s grandparents, a kid on a bike, or a farmer headed for the field.
