That's why we shouldn't continue to do things "because that's the way they've always been done." We might be missing out on some powerful pedagogy because we are afraid. And kids are the unwitting losers in that scenario.

Just because a student does not raise their hand, does not mean that they are not thinking deeply about the content. We need to broaden what we mean by engagement in our classrooms/schools. This will invite/value more students in the learning process.

My daughter had talked for several years about how much she loved her 5th grade teacher. When I finally asked her what she liked about that teacher, this was her response: “She liked US!” So simple… yet so profound. Kids gravitate to the teachers that like them.

I’m convinced there is nothing better than a teacher that genuinely enjoys kids.

We played “who doesn’t belong” today with fractions! Majority thought 5/3, but the rich discussion was amazing to hear. Proud of my mathematicians today 🥰.
