I found this interview with Ruth Hunt, former head of Stonewall, very hard to read—because I personally know so many people who have sacrificed so much to contradict the stances she once held, and now disowns.

Hard to overstate how tiring these man-children with their weird mother complex are, haranguing women for speaking up for women and children’s rights and protections. I wish on them that one day they may recognise with humility what utter gigantic cocks they have been in all this

This is either a lie, or a delusion. Here’s Jenny Lindsay and Magi Gibson talking about what happened to them because they spoke up.

No, a cross response on twitter is *not * equivalent to activists physically trying to prevent you from attending a conference or an event. Or the way a whistleblower like Sonia Appleby was hounded and treated by her own employer.

Some male pundits seem to think when Hilary Cass cited toxicity of debate she really meant women not being gentle enough in pointing out how ill-informed they are, rather than death threats and ruined careers for whistleblowers & feminist campaigners. What luxury ignorant bliss!

THIS, for the love of god. Christ, some of you seriously need to sort yourselves out with your appalling complacency. It's like the (very much former) pal of mine who asked a few yrs back 'Why do you care so much, you don't even have kids?'

I don't have the expletives for it.

I’ve said a million times and will say a million times again that this issue has been a godsend for men on the left who know they shouldn’t, but desire to anyway, shout at women yet still be the Nice Guy. An outlet valve for those who know not to say but do believe it.

It’s very hard to go back to any semblance of normality after you’ve seen probably the majority of people can be made to say the earth is flat if it’s politically convenient

The contemptible claim that, ‘I would have said something if you hadn’t made the argument so toxic/had been less obsessive/hadn’t seemed so angry/weren’t a massive terf’ is going to be - already is - everywhere. It’s not what we said but the way that we said it, silly.

“There are few other areas of healthcare where professionals are so afraid to openly discuss their views, where people are vilified on social media, and where name-calling echoes the worst bullying behaviour. This must stop.” Dr Hilary Cass holyrood.com/news/view,clin…

I very much hope that children’s publishers, agents and authors are paying attention to the - & the news coming from other countries, including the US, Finland, the Netherlands - & adjusting their output accordingly.

Culture has played a big part in this scandal.

“Where have large swathes of the media been? And sadly, I include the BBC in that outside of this programme…” A devastating critique of professional failure to stand up for truth and safeguarding from Hannah Barnes on BBC Newsnight

‘If I’m wrong? Honestly? Hallelujah. If I’m wrong? Great. People aren’t being harmed. But if you are wrong, you have created a climate ...a threatening climate, in which whistleblowers and young people themselves are being intimidated out of raising concerns.’
(JK Rowling, 2023)

Hard agree. Ppl don't get to sit out the bit where others raised entirely legitimate concerns to a cacophony of vexatious claims of bigotry & transphobia, only now to shake heads & say 'culture wars! Both sides!' That's the luxury perspective complicit in real-world failings.
