A vital part of the maternity team who contribute so much (we couldn’t do all we do without them!) but are sometimes overlooked when planning, improving or changing services…hopefully not at Gateshead!!

Loved reading this story about Ian Aird. I might only have worked with Ian for the last 6 years but what a privilege! Always knowledgeable, level headed and has the right answer (particularly when I am going down a rabbit hole that I need to get out of!) Great to see this 😊

Great day with Karen Parker at the final instalment of the perinatal leadership course. A lot of good stuff to bring back and a great chance to chat with other maternity leadership teams. We all have the same issues but a lot of enthusiasm to try and solve them too!!

Reminder that, for the sake of patient safety, we should challenge everyday incivility as well as the worst kinds of behaviour. Also interesting thought that confidential investigations make it harder for both the surrounding teams and for learning to be shared.

This is why maternity services need investment. To prevent the harm and the trauma is obviously the most important reason but it actually makes financial sense too.
