Ss have been exploring families. We were read the book A Family is a Family by Sara O'Leary. Ss discussed the different families represented in the story. Ss shared their own loved ones through their family portraits. They framed them with things found on our nature walk 🍂

How powerful are our words? 103 has been thinking about this after reading Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall. Ss talked about how Jabari’s dad used his kind words to encourage him to be brave. They made posters with encouraging words like “You can do it! We will catch you! It’s ok!”

103 practiced their sketching skills today in the yard! They drew things they saw outside that let them know that fall is here. When we went inside, we looked at some of their drawings up close. 1 shared: “I drew the trees, a squirrel and leaves on the ground” #Outdoorlearning

Our kindergarten yard rebuild is starting on Tuesday! Yeah! In the meanwhile kindergarten students please remember to line up in your new spots. 👍😊

Today we explored natural patterns found on decorative autumn corn. The children used magnifying glasses to help them find the patterns hiding among the kernels. They were invited to replicate and extend the patterns by colouring in the grid paper. #joyfulmath #elemmathchat

The amazing Rabia Khokhar (she/her) joined 103 this week to share her experiences as a Muslim women who proudly wears her hijab. Ss learned that muslims r diverse and can look and do many different things! Rabia invited ss to be allies by helping others feel included and safe. TDSB Islamic Heritage Month

It was lovely to virtually gather with some of the 103 families for curriculum night. During such a strange year, it was so important for @MGiovannasalas and I to help families feel connected to what’s happening at school. Thanks to all those who were able to attend!

Today 103 ss learned about Yayoi Kusama’s art + her love of dots. We read a book about her life and saw clips of her Infinity Mirrors exhibit. Ss used glow in the dark paint 2 make their own pumpkins. We turned off the lights and transformed 103 into our own glowing art exhibit!

After an unexpected visit from Toronto Fire Services 🇨🇦 today at McMurrich, ss were inspired to create thank you cards for the firefighters! Ms. Salas and I dropped them off at our local fire station. It was great getting to meet the community helpers that keep us safe 👍🏼@TDSB_Colin

103 had a burst of creativity today inspired by all the beautiful snow! They created snow sculptures and used some colourful paints to decorate them ❄️ 🎨 #TDSB #snowto @TDSB_Colin

Over the break Ms. Salas & I found out our student D was picked as 1 of the winners of the Toronto Public Library bookmark contest! After a long 2 month wait, @TDSB_Colin was able to present her with her prize. We all can’t wait to see her bookmark printed at the library soon!

The 103 mud kitchen is open ready for business! The class loved using all the donated kitchen items to help foster their thriving bakery and cafe businesses 👩🏽‍🍳 Even Ms. Salas enjoyed a special veggie soup from one of our ss! @TDSB_Colin
