Today's Gallery Walk to introduce themes in Macbeth--When we finish Macbeth, we will revisit these statements to see if their opinions change, and they will use Macbeth to prove their points. #WeSlayELA

It's been a few years since my AP Lit class warned students about surveillance at CHS. Just like "Big Brother is Watching You" signs in Orwell's 1984, they posted signs where there are cameras as a reminder that their actions are always under surveillance. #BigBrother #WeSlayELA

It took a lot of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus to get through this morning. I'm smiling my way through the craziness! #LearningLeading #WeSlayELA #WildcatNation

I'm getting my Schoology classroom ready for this week. Here's my welcome page for my AP students. Just a reminder as they start to say, "But it's so hard..." #WeSlayELA #LeadingLearning #LeadingLearningRemotely #BitmojiClassroom #ItsSupposedToBeHard #aleagueoftheirown

#Beowulf swam for several nights wearing his woven-metal mail shirt. There's no better way to get students' attention & prove Beowulf's strength than having them wear chain mail. They like the challenge to see what they can do while wearing it. BJ sprinted down the hall. 😂

We're watching #FreshPrinceOfBelAir clips to understand foil characters. It makes me smile to hear my students rap, "In West Philadelphia, born and raised..." Now that I have their attention--Up next, a lesson about how Unferth is a foil to #Beowulf. #LearningLeading #WeSlayELA

This is my own reminder! Being a teacher is tough. We have bad days. Our patience wears thin, but we should always strive to be kind. P.S. Being kind doesn't mean you're a pushover. You can hold students to high standards and be kind at the same time.

Students are more intuitive about teachers than we think. Be genuine with your students. Build relationships. Don't judge. Be a light. Offer advice. Plant that seed and pray it grows. I don't know where this student is now, but I hope our conversation that day made an impact.
