Starting off the year with our first number talk. How do you know this is 5? “2 and 2 make 4 and 1 more makes 5.” “That’s what 5 looks like on a dice.” “I see 4 in the corners and 1 in the middle, which is 5.” Washington School #thinklikeamathematician

We worked together to tell a story using the light table. “It’s a snow pup under a rainbow.” “This is a baseball game and the coach came over to the the player who got hurt.” “This is a house and the dad is trying to get the kid to eat!”Washington School

1L went walking. What did we see…? Preparing for our first pattern book writing! Using the book I Went Walking by Sue Williams as a mentor text, we went for a walk and documented what we saw. We can’t wait to write our own books! Washington School wyckoff schools
