Requiring children to choose books at a particular "level" for independent reading often denies them intellectual and social/cultural access AND the right to self-direct their reading lives. More cons than pros. #nerdybookclub

Got to experience the power of creating in story workshop today. This story was about scoring a goal in hockey.

We are listening now and helping our children learn our shared history and find paths toward reconciliation.

We learned about the purpose of talking sticks last week and made our own to bring home to share and listen with our families.

We used 10 frames to figure out we had 490 seeds in our class pumpkin!

Practicing vowels we write in words was fun this afternoon!

Officially done my Masters in Inclusive Education at St.FX! Feeling really grateful to have been in the cohort I was the past two years and for some of the Instructors I had who helped me rethink about inclusion in my own class.

Today the grade ones were asked to pick a number and figure out what could come next. It led to some Interesting conversations about how they all used symbols to show numbers and how we could represent numbers in different ways when we came back together.

We did our own loose part beading as we explored the history and artistry of Mi’kmaq beading this month.

Which is greater 13 or 18? How can you prove it? Lots of different ideas to show our thinking
