When the moderator is moderated…..

My colleagues know me so well!

Moderation, quality assurance of me as a moderator, OFSTED….all since half term. Wow.

Just heard about another school getting the Friday call. Staff anxiety through the roof and will be prolonged for an additional 2 days. It’s really not ok. Where’s the duty of care Ofsted ?

My daughter’s school received the call on Friday afternoon. Staff well-being?! Just a tick box. Weekends ruined.

Penultimate mentoring session with my amazing ECT today. It’s been an absolute privilege watching her develop into an excellent practitioner. At the moment, we have no ECTs in school next year and I’m going to miss this role so much. I love working with other teachers.

I think perhaps as a profession we expend far too much energy into trying to encourage, enforce and track that pupils read at home. Probably more useful to imagine ‘what would I do if none of my pupils read at home?’ and then start just doing that every day.

The DfE have published the updated Reading Framework, which now features non-statutory guidance on the teaching of reading up to Year 9 gov.uk/government/pub…

I’ve said for YEARS that being a part time (female) teacher is terrible - we are often mistreated, undervalued and overlooked - and it is sad to read that nothing is changing (I’m much older than the women interviewed for the article).

Not quite at the top of the world but still pretty spectacular at 3715m. And so so quiet!

I had to the break the news today to 5 KS2 pupils that we actually break up for Christmas NEXT week….

What a brilliant day at researchEDBournemouth yesterday. Inspiring speakers and lots of thinking about education, research and evidence.

There’s nothing like opening boxes of brand new books for our library and having a flock of children swooping in like birds of prey!
