PSA: A text is not inherently "decodable." Decodability is a property of the text ⭐️in relation to the reader⭐️. So, e.g., for a child who has learned the alphabet, sh, and "for," the page below is 100% decodable, but for a child who has only learned the alphabet, it's only 40%.

Happy Thursday, y’all and remember, studies have shown that reading for pleasure, even for just a few minutes a day, can make a significant contribution to our mental health. #bydhttmwfi

I believe all administrators should have a consistent teaching load. Eliminate the fluff meetings, connect w/ students and their families, & experience teaching as it is now. Glad I still taught as a coach bc I experienced COVID teaching. Wish I had taught regularly as an admin.

Unfortunately can’t make it bc I’m teaching my grad students that night, but strongly recommend to anyone interested. Pam’s book Mentor Texts that Multitask is phenomenal!

As the news everywhere reports declining maths scores from NAEP, The Nation's Report Card have a look at this school's approach - which caused gains during the pandemic. Students working together & sharing their different strategies - beautiful! nytimes.com/2022/10/15/us/…

Heard 2 parents talking at the library. One referenced the #NAEP2022 results & how much trouble we are in as a nation. The other said, “and this is why I pulled my kids and homeschool them”. All I could think about was my girls losing their Grandma (my mom) to COVID. Perspective.

No amount of programs, person or computer interventions, well-rounded curriculums, grants, money, or (fill in the blank) will move numbers from Tier 2 & 3, unless your Tier 1 is a well-designed, learning centered force. Tier 1 is the key. Fix it first.
