First visit to The Edinburgh Bookshop in its new home. So impressed by what they have done with the space. The new shop is light and spacious and there is a fantastic new children’s section. I especially love the dragon with his book hoard.
I’ve started the school year by reading this gorgeous book by Caroline Crowe to the Pre Prep children. They love spotting all the ways the book is changed as it passes through the hands and homes of readers. They really like the idea that they will be part of the story of books.
Treat to be in the audience for Walking in the shadow of men: bringing women to the centre of historical fiction with Lesley McDowell, Sara Sheridan and Kim Sherwood. Great to see Edinburgh Women’s Fiction Festival back again. Sara Sheridan Kim Sherwood
Adults and children were equally caught up in story teller Lizzie McDougall’s wonderful Highland stories, all illustrated by her stunning quilts. People kept asking for just one more! A lovely event at Stockbridge Library Edinburgh Libraries
My Primary One classes absolutely loved hearing about the adventures of Fang and Bang in this fun story by J-J Murray They especially enjoyed spotting the naughty Midnight Mouse in the wonderful illustrations by Katie Tayler. We’re looking forward to the next instalment!
Really enjoyed listening to Sophy Roberts talking about the story, the places and the people that led to her writing this intriguing account of C19th Indian elephants being taken to Africa. Thank you Topping & Company Booksellers of Edinburgh for another brilliant event.
Last term Form 4 went to a brilliant author event with Pamela Butchart at St George's School, Edinburgh They had a great time and lots of them have giggled their way through the book. The word has gone out and now kids from other year groups are really enjoying it too.
When L. D. Lapinski visited our school she told us all about Kick Flip. One of our pupils has been patiently waiting for it to be published ever since. This morning he came running in to show me his copy and apparently it is even better than he hoped. Hachette Children's Group
Fascinating and moving display in the The McManus about the Rae brothers, whose “extreme gallantry” during World War Two was recognised with four Military Crosses. All four brothers were educated Cargilfield School
Excited to hear that Barbara Henderson is coming to Edinburgh soon. Can’t wait to hear about the new book and I bet she has got some cool props as well. Cargilfield School pupils have really enjoyed meeting Barbara on her previous trips and I know this event will be brilliant.
Great birthday present - tickets to see @RevRichardColes at Edinburgh International Book Festival Interesting and entertaining in equal measure - the audience gave a very polite Edinburgh groan when told the hour was up!
Great visit to the Signal Tower Museum in Arbroath. Fascinating displays and friendly, helpful staff. The kids loved it, the adults loved it and even the dog was welcomed in. ANGUSalive
