Group Juggle. Spaghetti Building Challenge. Save Fred. Rock Paper Scissors War. And the list goes on. It’s been a busy week of building community and making friends in Room 2 Mackenzie King PS. What was your child’s favourite activity?

If Math was an animal, what would it be? “A snail because it’s okay to go slowly to get an answer.” “A cheetah because it is quick, but also patient when hunting prey.” “An elephant because it doesn’t forget, and we need to remember basic math facts to do harder math.” Brilliant!

Good writers use adjectives to help their reader to create a mental picture. When given the first description, our pirates all looked different. Once adjectives were added, students could visualize the author’s pirate and create an accurate drawing. Mackenzie King PS

Our mentor text today reminded us that good writers use tools to improve their word choice. Students then used an online thesaurus to find synonyms for boring words, like ‘big’ or ‘cute’. Mackenzie King PS

A Call To Remember. A Call To Action. Ask your Room 2 student what reconciliation means, and how this day of remembrance relates to our learning in Social Studies. Mackenzie King PS

A fantastic morning with Sarah Tolmie, poet and UW prof, who engaged our Grade 5/6 students. Ask your learner how a marble and its predicament inspired their poetry writing!

It’s the last Friday of the month and that means that it is “Feel Good Friday” in Room 2. Ask your child to see their note from Mrs. Kehl.
