If Math was an animal, what would it be? “A snail because it’s okay to go slowly to get an answer.” “A cheetah because it is quick, but also patient when hunting prey.” “An elephant because it doesn’t forget, and we need to remember basic math facts to do harder math.” Brilliant!

Good writers use adjectives to help their reader to create a mental picture. When given the first description, our pirates all looked different. Once adjectives were added, students could visualize the author’s pirate and create an accurate drawing. Mackenzie King PS

Our mentor text today reminded us that good writers use tools to improve their word choice. Students then used an online thesaurus to find synonyms for boring words, like ‘big’ or ‘cute’. Mackenzie King PS

Playing “Place Value Battleship - Decimal Edition” helps us review our understanding of decimal numbers (and how to say them like a mathematician). Mackenzie King PS

In Room 2 Mackenzie King PS the last Friday of each month is a Feel Good Friday. Each child in Room 2 is valued for their unique personality, strengths and contributions they bring to our class.

Ask your Room 2 learner how to round to the nearest tenth (Grade 5s) or the nearest hundredth (Grade 6s).
