So happy with this from Year 9! Started off with everyone focusing on militarism and then they will have the freedom to do the rest of it next lesson with the writing frame!

ITV wales doing a piece on high school kids coming up with reading ages of 5! About time this was raised! More and more kids are coming up with this year after year!!

Won’t be long until the Welsh Curriculum of a skills based focused is not fit for purpose too. Years of teachers revamping SoW to teach skills over content. Also finding that secondary staff are not equipped to deal with such low level of ability! I speak from my own experience!

I’ve already spent 3 days of my half term marking year 9 assessments. I have 51 year 9 assessments left to mark, and a a practice question for Year 10 and 11 all from the final week of last half term. I feel mentally tired already from all that and my half term is nearly over!!!

Adding to this, I don’t want to be doing any work on Sunday. This means I’ll have to most of Saturday insuring everything is prepped for the upcoming week ahead. Which means I can’t really mark more assessments. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Which means marking the assessments next week in the evenings and PPAs which then means falling behind on books … with an impending book review in the next 3 weeks. Somehow meant to have a life in between all of this 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

What strategies has your school or even at department level have been implemented to try and improve outcomes for FMS pupils or PP for those England? Very interested to see if one strategy has had an impact.

So much of this is true! So much evidence gathering, spreadsheets over marking. Hours and hours wasted where time can be put back into making lessons engaging and accessible. Most importantly teachers having a life!!!

Very disappointed in the WJEC GCSE History spec course. Zero opportunity to ask live questions. Was also scheduled until 5pm and they end it just after 4. I think they have definitely got a sense of what we all think!

Estyn are in this week! 2 weeks of my life consumed by work! Lesson observation and Head of department interview done in one day! What a relief! Let’s smash the rest of the week now!

Does anyone have any examples of whole class feedback that they feel works well for them? I’m finding that pupils are spelling the same words wrong in January that they were in December despite my marking picking them up. Surely there’s a better and more impactful way?

Never been ready for half term so much. Estyn has completely zapped me and any motivation I have right now 🤦🏻‍♂️ roll on tomorrow!
